Corrosive Carcass: Rot in pieces

06/04/11  ||  revenant

There was, once upon a time, a writer here at Global Domination that used to write reviews only one paragraph in length. I can’t remember his name right now… It was Big-Beard or Butt-Boi or something like that. At any rate, the point of me raising this is that I sometimes think that maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing. Be succinct. Take this Corrosive Carcass demo we’ve been sent. I could easily summarize it into one paragraph. Check it out:

Corrosive Carcass, hailing from Sweden, deliver some pretty damn good old school death metal (think Morbid Angel) on their debut demo “Rot in Pieces”. The vocals, at times, stray too far from the traditional death growls into screech territory which sounds bloody awful. The songs a pretty well written, short and with some cool sections (the bad arse bass break on “Self Mutilation” a definite highlight). The best track, though, is album closer “Collector” which is a much longer and more progressive track, which builds nicely from the intro and is quite damn catchy. All in all this is a pretty damn decent start, pity it has such a shitty production.

See? That wasn’t so hard. Big-Butt would be proud… only, well, I know you devout GD readers are a little more demanding that. You are only two mouthfuls into your morning coffee and the review is over already. OK, no sweat, I can pad this out with a joke…

So these three dwarfs are sitting around bored when one dwarf looks at another and says “You know what? You have really small ears. I bet if you went to the Guinness guys they’d tell you that you have the smallest ears in the world”. So off went the dwarf to Guinness, had his ears measured and lo and behold, he had the smallest ears in the world. The three dwarfs celebrate together when Mr Smallest Ears in the World notices the second dwarf has a particularly small nose. “You know what? You have a really small nose. I bet if you went to the Guinness guys they’d tell you that you have the smallest nose in the world”. So off went the dwarf to Guinness, had his nose measured and lo and behold, he had the smallest nose in the world. Again the dwarfs celebrate, though the two world holders suddenly feel sad for their companion. “Surely you too must have something incredibly small too” they declare. “Well” the third dwarf says shyly, “I do have a particularly small penis. I used to masturbate with tweezers. Maybe I have the smallest penis in the world?”. Excitedly, he runs off to Guinness to show them his penis. Hours later he returns, white with rage. “What happened, don’t you have the smallest penis in the world?” the friends ask. After taking a few deep breaths, he replies “No, and who the fuck is this Smalley guy anyway?”

BAM. There’s nothing funnier than a small dick joke. Unless you have one, that is.

So to conclude (and bring this back to the band at hand), Corrosive Carcass released a pretty good old school death metal demo, though one that is held back by some (at times) poor vocals and shitty production.
